The Rongai Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the remote northern side, near the Kenyan border. It is the only route that begins from the north, making it quieter and less crowded than southern routes. Rongai is well known for its gentle gradient, scenic wilderness, and high success rate—making it an excellent choice for trekkers seeking a more relaxed ascent.
The route joins the Marangu Route on the descent, offering varied landscapes including moorlands, alpine desert, and glacial views near the summit.
